I used to self-host my own DNS server using FreeBSD and had it go straight to the root DNS nameservers. Does anyone ever do that anymore that we know of?

[EDIT: To anyone coming across this: Don't do this. It's not a good idea. I stopped doing this over a decade ago. :)]

@kkarhan @0xF21D A lot of people actually run recursive DNS servers at home but I recommend against doing that for reasons explained here: wiki.opennic.org/opennic/tier2

@fusl @kkarhan makes sense. You also don't want everyone just pointing to the root servers.

@0xF21D @fusl granted has enough resources to actually deal with misconfigred shite pointing at their A-ROOT DNS server...

As for , I do recommend them because they are stable and have a good track record...
