Given recent events, I want to move my digital life out of the United States ASAP. I'm looking at @Tutanota as a replacement mail and calendar service. But I'm confused about whether I can import mail from Gmail or not:
https://tuta.com/support/general#mail-import says I can do it, and doesn't mention any restrictions.
https://tuta.com/support/paid#import says "Email import is not yet possible".
https://tuta.com/blog/tuta-release-update-february#email-import says I can import mail, but only on the plan that costs €8 a month (but I don't need 500GB of email storage; the €3/month plan is the one I'd go for).
What's the story? Can it be done, or not quite yet?
@CppGuy @Tutanota I don't have any experience with Tuta, but I can heavily recommend https://migadu.com
Switzerland-based and very transparent about everything, including their price model. You can import your previous mail using isync/mailsync/your favorite IMAP tool.
Just to give some alternative, I'm not associated with them in any way.
@fedops @CppGuy @Tutanota Yeah, thanks, I know, I do live in a neighboring country.
That's why I wrote it out that explicitly - there are always tradeoffs. But AFAIK their own FADP-law tries to mimic the EU one, at least with the latest 2023 revision. So I'm not really pessimistic about it, and especially in comparison than the rest of the world.
@CppGuy Hi, you can import email with the Legend plan. Here are the exact steps: https://tuta.com/support#mail-import
@Tutanota
Thanks for clarifying.
I don't need 500GB of storage; what I'm trying to set up is two accounts with a few GB of mail each, plus a handful of calendars shared between Mrs Wife and me. I was originally thinking of two Revolutionary accounts, one for each of us. Can I have one month of Legend, use it to import email from Google, and then downgrade to Revolutionary?
Mrs Wife hasn't quite understood the need to get off Gmail yet, so I'd struggle to justify 16 euros a month plus the upheaval of changing email addresses!
