toki pona would be fun if the only people that used it weren't linguistics nerds who's favorite hobby is correcting people

@eri I think even has some actual advantages (abeit not it's own script) in that it's a simple languague that in theory has the merit of being more accessible to people with severe learning disabilities and speech impedements or difficulties with languagues.

  • Granted the biggest downside is the fact that there are very, very few speakers which misses the point of a languague.

But I do think that Toki Pona deserves more attention and adoption, even tho it's simplicity is also a great weakpoint as it makes it hard (if not almost impossible) to formulate complex technical or legal texts in it or even translate these into Toki Pona...

  • Some people may say that this is inherent given the fact that complexity is antithetical to said languague but I think that's cutting it way too short...

@kkarhan @eri there's a connection between the complex topics bit and the correcting people bit i think. i care about grammar (and other details) because maintaining that structure brings expressing really complicated things into reach (not bc it's nerd shit)

@tbodt @eri obviously, many languagues hack this with absurdly complex grammar, assigning gender to inanimate objects and even going so far as to make gianormois composite words that then get shorted into incomprehensible and highly contextual acronyms.

  • See German as prime example...

That being said I am shure the existing options re: time, gender, context and so forth do allow for complex conversations and given the vocabulary lenght may even allow for fast speaking in theory, even tho that goes against the design goals.
