One of the more frustrating things about liberals is they have an idealized image of the Democratic Party and its politicians in their heads and they just make up stories about what they would do / will do / are doing that have no basis in fact -- and are actually easily disproved by their own statements in the media.
A very minor example is someone arguing Harris would have absolutely kept Lina Khan on as FTC head when during the campaign they were talking about dumping her in order to make their corporate donors happy.
Like, liberal boosters who follow a bunch of these Democratic Congresspeople are always parroting their words about how hard they're fighting. But it's usually the same Democratic Congresspeople voting to confirm Trump's appointees.
But I find it particularly bizarre in Harris' case because her campaign was very loudly conservative: pro-cop, pro-military, pro-Israel, anti-immigrant, Liz Cheney, etc. They were sucking up to big business like crazy and had QAnon adjacent speakers at the Democratic National Convention. But people will talk about her campaign like it was the second coming of Obama.
And Candidate Obama and President Obama were two different people in very different universes as it was.
I think there's a reluctance to admit that, while Harris wouldn't be talking about annexing Canada or letting Musk run rampant, a lot of this stuff would still be coming down from the states, courts, and a GOP Congress, if not from her own administration. Like, most Congressional Democrats are okay with deporting foreign students over pro-Palestinian speech. I suspect Harris would have done so as well, albeit more "legally." She would have been more pro-business than even Biden.
Some people seem determined to ignore how massively unpopular Biden was and why, that no one wanted a continuation of his presidency, that support for genocide turned off a lot of voters, and how many queer people felt betrayed by the campaign's rather snotty, dismissive attitude towards trans rights. On top of all the flag-waving conservative "deadliest military on earth" shit. If you want Democratic voters to vote for you, you should try to do things they like?
The idea it would have been a perfect "West Wing" presidency where everything turned out okay is just silly.
Harris supported fracking and the ongoing expansion of oil and gas drilling. So she wasn't exactly leading the charge on climate change either.
"As if Trump is better" is the thought-terminating cliche most liberals rely on to support shitty Democrats.
Which, to me, makes them shitty people.
For all that, I don't have a problem with you if you voted for Harris to stop Trump, knowing how little we were being offered in exchange. A lot of people did. I'm not asking you not to vote strategically. I'm asking you to be clear-eyed about who and what your vote is supporting and to expect better from these people.
I'm also saying that, if we have elections again, James Carville and the Harris campaign are not the template to go by. That has and will continue to lose elections. Expect better. Demand better.
@gwynnion I want #AOC (even if #BernieSanders will not be her m8 die to age)...
